Lauren K. Cohn, Ph.D. is a caring and compassionate psychologist. Her aim is to help patients build on their existing strengths in order to develop strategies to cope with the challenges they face. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr. Cohn earned a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Florida in 1987. She completed her internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Cohn’s doctoral research focused on theoretical factors in behavior therapy for children’s fears.
A member of the American Psychological Association and Florida Psychological Association, Dr. Cohn is beginning her term as Secretary of the Broward County Psychological Association.Since earning her degree, Dr. Cohn has practiced in a variety of clinical settings, including Miami Children’s Hospital, Jewish Family Service of Greater Miami and private practice. Dr. Cohn has been in private practice in Plantation since 1992. Dr. Cohn works with children, adolescents, adults and families, and she treats a wide variety of problems. These problems include depression, anxiety, life transitions, bereavement, infertility, relationship problems, divorce adjustment, and childhood behavior problems, including Attention Deficit Disorder.
Dr. Cohn specializes in psychological testing, providing evaluations for giftedness, learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and emotional disorders. Dr. Cohn also provides evaluations for patients preparing to undergo medical procedures, such as infertility treatment.
Dr. Cohn enjoys speaking to community groups about mental health issues. She has spoken about a variety of topics including parenting, coping with chronic illness, communication skills, handling the holiday blues, stress management, helping children succeed in school and talking to children about sex and sexuality. She has appeared on radio and TV, and has written articles for a local parenting magazine.
Outside of the office, a busy family life gives Dr. Cohn a unique appreciation for the struggles faces by parents and children. A former Girl Scout leader, Dr. Cohn remains active as a volunteer in the community. She is currently president-elect of the Broward County Psychological Association and will serve as president in 2013.
